Mr. Mattis' Classroom Guidelines & Expectations
6th Grade Expectations:
As a 6th grader I am expecting you to be a role model at Riverside. Since this is your second year at the school you know what is expected from you. In my classroom I will expect you to be polite to staff and other students. You will also be expected to try your very best, and participate in classroom activities and assignments. Finally, you will be expected to respect yourself, other students and staff members at all times. If you are able to follow these 6th grade expectations you will have a great year of learning at Riverside!
Here are the four simple guidelines for my classroom:
• Respect, Respect, Respect!
• Come to class prepared everyday
• Have a positive attitude
• Put 100% towards everything you do
Classroom Supplies:
We will be using a lot of online programs in my classroom for both science and social studies throughout the school year. However, you will still need to bring some essential supplies with you everyday.
• Pen/Pencil
• MacBook
• Composition notebook (1 for science, 1 for social studies)
• Book to read
Classwork/Homework Policy:
Any activity, project, assignment, quiz, etc. is expected to be completed neatly and handed in on time. If a student does not turn in schoolwork on time they will receive 50% credit for their work. Students need to be responsible for their grades and keep track of due dates in my class. Absent students are responsible for finding out assignments missed and handing these in on time. I will work with students to ensure they have a fair amount of time to complete their missing work.
It is not my goal to assign hours of homework to my students. I think it is very important for students to relax, be involved in out-of-school activities and spend time with family. Most of the time students will be given a sufficient amount of time in class to complete schoolwork. If students do not use their time wisely, then the result may be completing schoolwork at home. Every Monday a homework sheet will be sent home in the red Monday folder. Students and parents can also go to www.plymouth.k12.in.us/Riverside and then click on our team name “Stars.” This page will give you all of the homework for the week.
Achieve3000:
If you are a returning Riverside student you are familiar with Achieve3000. The school-wide expectation is for each student to complete two articles per week at a 75% or higher activity accuracy. In my class students will be assigned either one science or one social studies article a week. These articles usually correlate with our topic of focus, and help reinforce the information we are learning in class. I personally read the articles thought question (TQ) and I expect your best effort every time! The articles and the thought questions will be part of your final grade. By following the steps and guidelines of this program your reading and writing abilities are guaranteed to grow. Parents, you can also access the program. Visit at www.achieve3000.com to learn more.
Canvas:
This year PCSC will be implementing a new online portal called Canvas for announcements, discussions, etc. You can log-in to Canvas with your school username and password.
Grading Scale:
100% A+ 87%-82% B 71%-70% C- 59% and below F
99%-92% A 81%-80% B- 69%-68% D+
91%-90% A- 79%-78% C+ 67%-62% D
89%-88% B+ 77%-72% C 61%-60% D-
At Riverside we use a nine week grading period. Midterm reports will be sent home in the red Monday folder at the mid-point of the grading period. Science and social studies grade will consist on activities, projects, reports, experiments, quizzes, tests, common assessments and achieve3000 scores.
